What began as curiosity about the land she and her husband purchased for a camp has turned into a near obsession for a woman from the Cleveland suburbs. Anne Mulhollan and her husband Hank bought about 70 acres of land in the Gardeau area in 1987 while visiting the area on their honeymoon. Hank's family had a camp in the Hick's Run region for many years, so Cameron County was not unfamiliar territory to him. According to Mulhollan: “After buying the property we were told about the mineral springs and hotel that may have been on or near our property. So about 1988 we visited the Historical Society and did a little research. On and off we would make inquiries and talk to people but very little new information turned up for a long time.” About that time, they were having trouble with their well water at camp. When they traced the water lines 300 feet, they discovered a concrete foundation surrounding the well. This piqued Mulhollan's curiosity. Through research, she learned that the well had been dug to provide the mineral water that was used in the Sizer Springs Bath House, which was in operation from the late 19th century to the early 20th century. This discovery led Mulhollan to more questions than answers and ever since then. she has gained more and more knowledge and information about the Sizerville region. So much so that, this past spring, she and her business partner "went live" with a website all about the area of Cameron County that was once known as the town of Sizerville. Using their combined knowledge of website design and Mulhollan's vast information, the pair launched www.sizerville.com. The website has the most comprehensive collection of photos and data for the mostly forgotten town in Cameron County's northeast section. … |
